Comparado GmbH, the company behind Preis.de, was founded in 2005 in Lüneburg by Tobias Ossig-Lach and Philipp Schrader. Acquired by idealo Internet GmbH in 2013, it has been managed by Alice Spilka and an amazing team of 60, achieving profitable operations. I was brought on as Co-CEO in August 2020 to address growth challenges, focusing on scaling the product alongside Alice during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure operational stability and continued expansion. However, significant changes in Google's algorithms in early 2024 combined with tough market conditions resulted in a major drop in organic traffic for many small and mid-sized aggregators, including, idealo travel, ladenzeile and Preis.de. Consequently, the decision was made to close Preis.de in fall 2024. Today, Comparado GmbH continues working closely with idealo founders and managment to explore new opportunities in future business.

Spearheaded the modernization of Trotec's outdated shop system, overseeing its relaunch into 20 international markets. Established and led a specialist team in Berlin to a swift and successful platform launch within a year, doubling the conversion rate.

Refined the company's technical strategy to match business objectives. Key achievement was the digital transformation of a two-decade-old manufacturing infrastructure. Oversaw engineering initiatives across various teams and led development teams in Berlin.

Took a strategic career break to focus on professional development, technology research, and selective consulting opportunities. Advised early-stage startups on technical architecture and scaling strategies while exploring emerging technologies and industry trends.

Co-founded a specialized e-commerce software development agency, creating Enterprise Service Bus (ESBs) and ERP connectors. Expanded B2B customer portfolio to over 200 within 18 months, built and managed a team of 25 engineers. Achieved successful exit via acquisition.

Initiated and developed a specialized in-house e-commerce department for an advertising agency, crafting customized online shops utilizing Magento and other e-commerce technologies.

Oversaw the transition of e-commerce platform from XT:Commerce to Magento, enhancing online and in-store retail capabilities. Implemented comprehensive inventory management with OpenERP.

Maintained and enhanced the existing online store, developed bespoke extensions, and optimized Magento templates. Active contributor to the Magento open source project.
